Commercial Locksmith Services in Edmonton

A smiling man with glasses and tattoos on his right arm, wearing a black T-shirt, is sitting at a table with a cardboard box in front of him. The scene appears to be in an outdoor or semi-outdoor setting with a brick wall and windows in the background, and a yellow and blue safety sign on the window.

A commercial locksmith works on business and institutional buildings rather than homes. That sounds like a small distinction and it isn't. A door in an office building, a retail unit, or a rec centre opens and closes hundreds of times a day, has to meet code on the way out, and is usually part of a system rather than a single lock. The hardware is different, the failure modes are different, and the consequences of getting it wrong are different.

Ace works with businesses, building owners, and facilities staff across Edmonton — offices, retail, restaurants, churches, clinics, warehouses, and institutional buildings. We are licensed, bonded, and journeyman-certified.

Why is commercial different?

Grade of hardware. Commercial locks and closers are built to a different standard than anything sold at a hardware store, and specified by cycle rating rather than finish. Putting residential hardware on a commercial door to a business is the most common reason a door fails a year after somebody "fixed" it.

Doors are systems, not locks. A commercial opening is a door, frame, hinges, closer, strike, latch, and often a keyway that belongs to a building-wide plan. Change one part without accounting for the rest and the door stops working properly.

Egress and code. Exit doors have to open from the inside in one motion, every time, regardless of what security is on the outside. That constraint shapes what can and can't be installed, and it's not negotiable.

Access changes constantly. Staff turn over, contractors come and go, tenants change. Commercial buildings need access that can be updated without rekeying the world.

Exit and fire hardware

Make sure your fire exits are working properly.

An exit door has to open from the inside in a single motion — no key, no thumbturn, no second action — no matter what's securing it from the outside. It's a life-safety requirement, not a preference. But exit devices take more abuse than any other hardware in a building, and they fail slowly: a latch that doesn't fully retract, a device that binds, a door that needs a shoulder.

Often, nobody notices until it matters.

We install, repair, and adjust exit devices and fire-rated door hardware, and we'll tell you plainly when something we find is a problem rather than a preference.

Working with us

We quote before we start. Free estimates, and you know the number before work begins.

We explain what we found. If a door needs more than you called about, you'll hear why, and what happens if it waits.

Everything is documented. Jobs are logged and available if you need them for a file, an owner, or an insurer.

Do you manage buildings?

Property managers and condo boards have a different set of problems — turnover on fixed dates, key records, access lists, and paperwork that has to survive an audit.

Credentials

Locksmithing in Alberta isn't licensed the way plumbing or electrical is, so it's worth knowing what you're actually getting.

Journeymen on every job. Two certified journeymen on the team, with apprentices working under them rather than on their own.

Licensed. All our locksmiths are SSIA licensed (Security Services and Investigators Act) by the Government of Alberta – we can provide our licence numbers on request.

Bonded and insured. Certificates available if your building or insurer needs them on file.

In Edmonton since 2022. We're in Glenora, and we work across Edmonton, Sherwood Park, St. Albert, Stony Plain, Spruce Grove, Beaumont, Leduc, and Nisku.

If your property management company or insurer needs documentation before we start work, ask and we'll send it over.
